Let’s say you’re the present Governor of Illinois and you’re in a room with a former Governor of Illinois on your right and a former Governor of Illinois on your left. Chances are the room you’re in is jail.
It’s funny because it’s true.

Senator Paul has suggested that only in Washington can people believe that spending money actually saves money. And I think that’s the kind of philosophy that results in us spending about twice as much per person on health care as any other country on earth. We have millions of millions of Americans who can’t get to a doctor on time. Some of them die, some of them become very, very ill and end up in the emergency room or end up in the hospital at great cost. Maybe it’s the same reason why we have more people in jail than any other country on earth including China, tied to the fact that we have the highest poverty rate among children among many other major countries on earth. I happen to believe that intelligently investing in the needs of our people does in fact save substantial sums of money.

You think 435 fairly well to-do, mostly white men, should make that decision?
Anthony Weiner advocating that the decision for what women should be able to do with their bodies should be a decision made between a woman and her doctor, not determined by a committee of congressmen. Video here. (via soupsoup)

Remember when Planned Parenthood & NPR crashed the market, wiped out half our 401Ks and took TARP money? Me neither.

They say they want to have an adult conversation about this, and we would love that. I’ve been waiting for days, weeks, months for an adult conversation, so if you find an adult over there, send them over.

And let’s be very clear about what their demand to defund Planned Parenthood actually means: “Planned Parenthood is already prohibited [by the Hyde Amendment] from using public funds to terminate pregnancies, and has been for many years. What we’re talking about here is Republicans shutting down the government over access to contraception and family planning services.”
And the very important preventative healthcare services (like cancer screening) that Planned Parenthood provides to women at low cost.
Rep. Weiner is not being hyperbolic. Women are under attack. And this is class warfare.

Priorities
NPR received $7.8 million in federal funding last year. That’s the equivalent of less than half a dozen of our 8600 Patriot missiles ($1 to $6 million each), two of our more than 400 predator drones ($4.5 million each), John Boehner’s net worth (estimated between $2.1 and $7 million), or 1 year’s salary for 44 House Representatives ($174,000 per year).
Just sayin’
Ignorance isn’t bliss.
